BECAUSE MOBILITY MATTERS
Mobility is the most under-appreciated element of health and fitness. Those that value it:
Increase their potential to be strong.
Reduce their risk of injury.
Manage discomfort/pain better.
Recover faster.
Mobility is the crux of this program - and the factor that separates a Commando Standard soldier from the pack.
COMMANDO STANDARD MOBILITY
HOW MOBILITY FITS INTO THE COMMANDO STANDARD
FOR ALL CANDIDATES : Over the 12-week course, we will specify full body mobility drills that prepare/defend for the tasks ahead.
FOR CANDIDATES THAT REQUIRE EXTRA MOBILITY : If, during the course, you feel restriction, stiffness or even pain on a given joint. You will require additional mobility protocols. We have created strategies for each of the key joints to facilitate quality movement and recovery. These should be completed in addition to the base course.
If you suffer any injury, it is important to consult a qualified professional for a one to one consultation. You can refer to our INJURY PROTOCOL to learn more on how to best proceed.
WHAT IS MOBILITY?
Mobility is the positions you can achieve - and how you get into them.
Strong mobility allows you to move muscles and joints to an unrestricted range of motion in an efficient and easy manner. We build strong mobility through stretching and a variety of techniques that branch from stretching.
Poor mobility comes from limitations. Tight muscles and forgotten movements will reduce the shapes you can achieve. Other muscles may have to pick up the slack to accomodate these restrictions exposing them to injury.
WHY MOBILITY BREAKS DOWN
You are a product of your actions, and inactions. Every single one of them to this very point.
At a very basic level - ‘Use it or lose it’ is a good approach to mobility.
Mobility is largely determined by the brain. Flexibility comes from getting comfortable in uncomfortable positions - ‘switching off’ the sensation of tightness through immersion, as opposed to making your muscles longer.
If you use a muscle/joint to a limited range of motion over time - you will forget how to use it to its full potential and the now unfamiliar positions will trigger the sensation of tightness.
The typical modern-day lifestyle will have people sat for long periods of time, limiting freedom of movement and making it tougher to recognise and remember strong positions. Every day, people put themselves in full body casts by not using their bodies to their full potential - a lack of mobility reflects that.
Sometimes weaker mobility can be created through action. Previous injuries, favoured sides, repetitive movement patterns build imbalances up, down and across the body. This asymmetry has some muscles working harder than the need to, and others not working hard enough.
Then you also have the rigorous training of Military preparedness. There is a lot of distance on unforgiving ground, high reps of tough exercises - often under additional load. This is tough on the body, so having stronger mobility allows you to armour plate the body and weather the difficulty.
With poor mobility - something will give. You will hit a wall through injury or just an inability to continue building strength. Value it, fight for it and you put yourself in a strong position to succeed.
NOW WHAT?
You should now have a fundamental understanding of what mobility is and why it is important. Now you need to get to grips with the tactics that will allow you to unlock your mobility and facilitate you getting as strong as hell.
You will learn:
How to warm up
The difference between static and dynamic stretching.
How to use a roller.
How to floss.
