WHAT WE ARE DOING AND WHY WE ARE DOING IT

THE CHALLENGE

Our team of three will carry an 80kg log (the rough weight of an adult man) across the Peak District. This will be approximately 10 hours of marching per day, three days in a row. The terrain will be rough, with days that have elevation that surpass the height of Mt Snowdon. We will be camping overnight and rotating through our three man team to carry the log.

It will be the toughest endurance event any of us have faced. If you imagine doing a weighted marathon up and down grassy, rocky hills, sleeping in a tent and then doing it two more times in a row - you get a rough idea of what it will be like.

THE NOT FORGOTTEN

Our team is looking to raise £2000 for The Not Forgotten.

Through social activities and challenge holidays, The Not Forgotten combats isolation and loneliness amongst the Armed Forces community.

They support any serving man or woman who is wounded, injured or sick and any veteran with a disability, illness or infirmity; whatever the cause and whenever it arose. Any serving or former member of The Royal Navy, The Royal Marines, The British Army, The Royal Air Force and The Merchant Navy, both Regular and Reserve Forces, may be eligible for our help.

We are halfway to our team target (there are four other teams too) - Every little helps and we would really appreciate anything you can contribute (we will tell you how below)

OUR TRAINING

The three of us have really been pushing ourselves the past 6 months since we agreed to take it on. We don’t just want to be prepared, we want to smash it! That means we have endured some serious suffering in our training - this is in the spirit of the charity, and the seriousness of the physical challenge that awaits us. If you sponsor us, do so knowing that much blood, blisters, chaffing and sweat (thankfully no tears) has gone into it!

Between the three of us, our training has included:

  • Weekly 6am hill running - wind, rain or shine.

  • Lots of heavy lifting - Squats, Deadlifts, Stonelifting etc.

  • Countless miles of loaded carries with weights up to 200kg (walking with sandbags, logs, kettlebells, dumbbells, stones etc)

  • Bulgarian Bag World Championships.

  • Three day walking weekends covering 90km.

  • Weighted speed marching and running over a multitude of distances, including marathons and half marathons.

  • Weekly grip training, where we basically try to remove skin from our hands.

  • Dragging tyres around a carpark for hours at a time.

  • Rowing up to 15km in an hour (sore bottoms!)
